We are supporting the following conference:

Mental Health: Lessons From The Scottish Approach
Tuesday 15 May, London

Organised by Holyrood Events, in association with the Mental Health Alliance, this upcoming conference offers a rare and invaluable opportunity for everyone with an interest in mental health to compare with and learn from the experiences of a neighbouring healthcare system, which has forged ahead with a new approach to mental health for the 21st century.

As the Government tries once again to secure support for new mental health legislation for England and Wales through the Mental Health Bill, this conference will provide an opportunity to:

• Debate the key issues around creating a 21st century Mental Health Act;
Compare the efforts of a similar health culture to respond and adapt to the challenges of modern mental health legislation;
• Assess and learn from the impact of the Scottish experience so far;
• Share and discuss examples of practice and service redesign; and
• In the light of the Scottish experience, consider how England and Wales should proceed.

The conference, chaired by Andy Bell of the Mental Health Alliance, will examine these and other subjects with specialist speakers from many different fields of expertise including:

• Dr Lindsay Thomson, Medical Director, The State Hospital
