In Parliament

Alliance representatives continue to build relationships with parliamentarians in preparation for the introduction of the Bill. We are striving to reach as many MPs and Peers as possible and encourage them to take an interest in this legislation.

In February 2006, MPs from both sides of the House of Commons tabled an Early Day Motion supporting the aims of the Mental Health Alliance. 139 MPs have signed, 55 of them from the Labour backbenches. We hope that many of these MPs will continue to support our campaign.

You can read the full text of the EDM and see which MPs have signed up here.

In February, Dianne Abbott, Labour MP for Hackney North, tabled an Early Day Motion on Black and Minority Ethnic Minorities and the Mental Health Bill. Click here for a link to the full text of the EDM and a list of all the MPs who have signed the motion.

It is important to keep track of our supporters in Parliament. If you meet MPs or Peers at an event of any kind and they express an interest in mental health, please pass this information on to us for our database by emailing David Stone, our Parliamentary lead: d.stone@mind.org.uk.

Briefing MPs

As well as arranging meetings to brief Members of both Houses, we distribute regular briefings and a Parliamentary Newsletter with all of the Alliance's latest news.
